An overdue introduction

It occurred to me that I haven’t introduced myself and I want to correct that right away so here’s a post serving up an introduction!

My name is Madeline and I live where I have lived almost my entire life—Miami, FL. I have three amazing kids—two of them are teenagers and one is a tween, two are in middle school and one is in high school. I love having big kids! It has been one of the most pleasant surprises of parenthood I have had yet and parenthood is FULL of surprises. I also have an amazing partner. We are engaged but don’t plan on getting married for a while, if ever. I’ve known him for 20 years and I love our relationship. Our road to each other has been rocky and sometimes downright painful, but it has been worth it every step of the way and I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world.

I have always loved color and cuteness. I was the little girl growing up in the 80’s that was obsessed with She-Ra, Rainbow Brite, Strawberry Shortcake, My Little Pony, Care Bears, Hello Kitty, and Lisa Frank among others (so many others). In high school I discovered Japanese anime and was also really into American animation for adults like Daria and Aeon Flux on MTV not to mention the insanity that was the early seasons of a new show called South Park. Comics, that were mostly unavailable to me growing up, were suddenly accessible and I loved the worlds they opened.

And so as much as the world has evolved, and I along with it, some things remain very much in my core. I still love animation whether it’s for children or adults, Japanese or American. I love to write on paper with pens. I love collecting things. I love stickers. I love letters. Most importantly, I still very much love to connect with people who love these things too. The age range is wide but that thrills me. I can connect with a 19-year-old over an adorable Rilakkuma plush and in the next breath connect with a 39-year-old over some gorgeous stickers.

One of the biggest things at my core is that I very much value good feelings in others and myself. I love the wistful smiles nostalgia conjures up.  I love the butterflies of opening a gift, especially a thoughtful one. I love the pleasant surprise of finding a letter in the mailbox. I love the satisfaction of putting a sticker on my planner and the way it reminds me of gold stars in school.

I started Colorful Cute because it seemed to me the best way to create connection with people like me. I thought it was also a great way to bring about smiles in others either by directly interacting with my store, online or in person, or indirectly by making small and thoughtful gift-giving easy to do. Smiles are very contagious.
